The Wind – Embracing the Chaos and Finding Peace

The Wind - Embracing Chaos and finding peace

For all those who feel blown down by the wind

The wind today is a wild beast. It is smashing thick, heavy evergreen branches and making them look like fragile twigs. It blows so hard that when you walk outside you feel thrashed, pushed, your hair blows in your face and whips into your eyes, it is like a force that is angry at you. Angry at you just for being there. It taunts you to go outside to see the sun but when you get there it beats you into believing that it’s just not worth it. You want to hide in the house from it. It is stealing this day from you. It is making it hard for you to enjoy what you had wanted to do outside. It just seems unnecessary like if it wasn’t there then the sun would be beautiful and enjoyable for all. Why does it have to ruin everything? Why is there always something trying to ruin everything?

Whoever or whatever my description of the wind is for you, I feel you. We can’t get rid of it though and we can’t stop it. This afternoon it wins. When it comes out to beat us. It wins. No contest, no better luck next time, no maybe if you tried harder, nope it just wins.

We must find peace in it winning because we cannot change it.

How do we find peace with something that ruins everything for us. That makes things miserable. That kicks us down.

We can’t kick it back. Being angry at it makes no difference, it doesn’t care.

The wind only ruins our day because we let it. We let our perception of the perfect day, the perfect afternoon, the perfect breeze, define our expectations. It doesn’t ruin everything; it just makes you re-adjust to what you are going to do instead. Sometimes when our expectations are taken away from us, we feel sad, defeated, angry and we even grieve for the moments we may have missed.

So, when you think the wind is ruining your day, enjoy your day in spite of it. To the best that you can. Try something new. Love the little things you got today. Love your coffee, love your favorite blanket on the couch, love looking out the window, love watching a comedy, love playing a game, love finishing your tasks so that when the wind goes down you have extra time to play. There are so many things to love. Love messaging a friend a funny meme, love being able to take the time to read a book, love cleaning something and making it fresh and new, love researching places you would love to visit one day, love watching your favorite old movies, love listening to your favorite music, these will all make your heart smile.

Now you can show the wind, it didn’t ruin your day, you just had to think of better things to do.
